As Senior Scientist for Prometheus, Geraldine leads the education expansion of
the organization. Prior to Prometheus, Geraldine was Chair of the STEM Magnet
Program for the Anne Arundel County Public School District South River High
School, where she led an extended department of 30 educators, identified and
supported student opportunities, managed out-of-school experiences, developed
and maintained new and existing relationships, and identified and targeted
scaling opportunities. Geraldine was invited to serve on the Maryland State
Department of Education (MSDE) STEM Education Strategic Planning Working
Group, Chair the MSDE STEM Education Equity Subcommittee, and contribute to
the MSDE STEM education strategic plan.
Geraldine also served as principal consultant and lead for out-of-school time
(OST) and experiential learning for the McREL Center for Learning Innovation,
where she developed and implemented strategic plans including education and
public outreach, personalized and informal learning, and OST programs. Prior
to joining McREL, Geraldine was an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator
Fellow at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center where she served in the capacity of
Deputy Lead for Informal Education and lead for evaluation of informal
education programs. While at Goddard, Geraldine led and/or conducted
formative assessment of select informal education programs at the Visitor
Center and the 2011 Explore@Goddard open house. Included were Family Science
Night, the Museum Educators Workshop (three year pilot) and NASA's BEST
(Beginning Engineering, Science and Technology) Students. Geraldine has five
years' experience in informal education, more than ten years teaching
mathematics and almost fifteen years as an environmental chemist and
contractor. She holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Florida, an
M.S. in mathematics education teaching and curriculum from the University of
Rochester, and is pursuing a PhD in evaluation and analytical methods in
the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
